08/29/2016 — Summer in the City – SIDA Makes Waves with New Tax Exemption Policies
Ben Walsh serves as business development director for Mackenzie Hughes LLP. In this role, Ben develops, coordinates, and executes strategies to support and expand existing client relationships and attract new business opportunities for the firm. Drawing upon his extensive nonprofit and public sector experience, he also guides the firm’s government and community relations efforts and provides policy and project management consulting services.
Prior to his role at Mackenzie Hughes, Ben served as deputy commissioner of the Department of Neighborhood and Business Development at the City of Syracuse and executive director of the City of Syracuse Industrial Development Agency (SIDA). He also previously held positions at the Metropolitan Development Association of Syracuse and Central New York (MDA), now CenterState CEO, and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF). In his past roles, Ben focused his efforts on developing and supporting urban revitalization strategies and navigating the municipal approval process (site development, permitting, zoning, financial assistance, etc.).
Ben holds a master’s of public administration (MPA) degree from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University as well as a bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College. Ben also spent time in Dublin, Ireland, where he interned in the Office of the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of The Republic of Ireland. In 2009, Ben was named one of Syracuse’s “40 Under 40” by the Central New York Business Journal, an award recognizing professionals under the age of forty who exemplify leadership in the community.
Ben currently serves as president of the Board of Trustees at The Gifford Foundation and also serves on the Board of Directors at the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. and the Landmark Theatre. He is a native of Syracuse, New York, and currently resides on the city’s west side with his wife Lindsay and their two daughters. In his spare time Ben enjoys spending time with his girls, watching Syracuse University sports, and exploring urban and rural landscapes alike.
