Edward J. Spencer III joined Mackenzie Hughes in 1981 and is now a partner in the firm. Ted's primary area of expertise is real estate, which includes residential, commercial, land use and zoning. He also handles regulatory compliance issues for banks and credit unions and is counsel to various local municipal boards. Ted also works with the firm's immigration law practice group where he provides advice and assistance to clients immigrating to the US in the purchase and sale of residential and commercial real estate properties.

Ted attended the United States Military Academy and received a Bachelor of Science degree upon graduation in 1973. After five years of active military service, he then went on to study at Syracuse University College of Law, where he graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate in 1981. Edward was admitted to the New York State and U.S. District Court, Northern District of New York Bar Courts in 1981.

Ted is a member of the Onondaga County, New York State (Business, Municipal and Real Property Law Sections) and American (General Practice and Business Law Sections) Bar Associations. He is a member of the Civil Affairs Association and the Association of Graduates of the United States Military Academy. In addition, he is a volunteer at the Syracuse City Court, where he is a Small Claims Arbitrator. He has also been a member of the United States Army Reserves for 28 years and served in the Judge Advocate General Corps.

He has lectured for the American Institute of Bankers and is an adjunct professor at Onondaga Community College where he has taught in its Business Department.

When Ted has a few moments to spare, he enjoys the outdoors, watching sports and spending time with his children.
