Jillian L. DiLaura McGuire Jillian L. DiLaura McGuire joined Mackenzie
Hughes in 2013 in the Domestic Relations Department. Her emphasis is in
family and matrimonial law, including negotiating and drafting separation
agreements, divorce, property valuation and distribution, maintenance
(alimony), custody, child support and domestic violence orders of protection.
Jillian graduated cum laude in 2003 from the College of the Holy Cross
in Worcester, Massachusetts, with a degree in History and Women's Studies.
She received History Honors and was a member of several honor societies.
She received her Juris Doctorate in 2006 from the Washington & Lee
University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia. She was the recipient
of the National Association of Women Lawyers Award in 2006, given to an
outstanding woman law student.
Jillian was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2006, and the District of
Columbia and New York Bars in 2012. Prior to her return to the Syracuse
area in 2013, Jillian clerked for the Honorable John H. Tisdale of the
Circuit Court of Maryland and then worked as an attorney at a boutique
law firm in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area focusing on family
law from 2007 - 2013. She was designated a Maryland State SuperLawyer
"Rising Star" in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
In 2014 and 2015, Jillian was selected as a New York SuperLawyer "Rising
Star." She was honored with the Onondaga County "Distinguished
Pro Bono Service Award" and was designated as "Empire State
Counsel" in recognition for her contributions to pro bono service
in the community in 2014.
Jillian is a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association, the New York
Bar Association, and the Women's Bar Association of New York. She currently
serves on the Board of Directors for the Onondaga County Bar Foundation
(as Treasurer); on the Board of Directors for the Hiscock Legal Aid Society;
and on the Board of Directors for the Women's Bar Association of Central
New York, also as Treasurer.
She has worked with several organizations to represent underprivileged
persons, victims of domestic violence, and children throughout her career
and currently volunteers for the Onondaga County Volunteer Lawyers Project.
In addition to her legal work, she has volunteered as a youth soccer coach
and lacrosse coach, as well as a tutor for middle school and high school
