Richard C. Engel, a partner, joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2003 and is a member of the firm's Executive Committee and Chair of the Business Department. He concentrates his practice in business and corporate law, mergers & acquisitions, securities law, banking, commercial development and IDA financing. He handles securities litigation and arbitration before FINRA, private securities offerings, and federal and state regulatory compliance relating to securities and corporate governance. His clients include the most prominent businesses, banks and investment firms in Central New York, whose trust and confidence Rich has earned through his years of experience in counseling them through their business, banking, corporate and securities issues, both complex and routine, and guiding them to regulatory compliance. Rich periodically lectures on business and securities law topics at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986 from Boston College, Rich attended Syracuse University College of Law, where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 1989. He was admitted to the New York State Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York in 1990 and the United States Supreme Court in 2012. He is a member of the American, New York State and Onondaga County Bar Associations. Rich has briefed and argued appeals before several appellate courts, including New York's highest court, the New York State Court of Appeals. Prior to joining Mackenzie Hughes, Rich practiced law at Engel & Engel, a leading securities law firm in Central New York.

Rich was recognized in 2003 by The Central New York Business Journal as one of "40 under 40," an honor that was awarded to the top 40 Central New York leaders under age 40 for their impact in making the region a better place to work and live. Rich's community involvement includes participation with the Volunteer Lawyer's Project, Onondaga County Bar Association's pro bono program and service as a judge for the Syracuse University College of Law and New York State Bar Association moot court competitions. He serves on the Boards of the Onondaga County Public Library, Christian Brothers Academy, Century Club and Central New York Biotechnology Accelerator. In addition, he is past President of the Board of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and past Chairman of the Board of the Frank H. Hiscock Legal Aid Society. Rich is an active parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville, New York.

In Rich's spare time, he enjoys outdoor sports such as downhill skiing, fishing, canoeing, scuba diving and spending time in the Adirondacks and Thousand Islands with his wife, who is also an attorney, and their three children.
